Eye of Newt

Merriam-Webster Dictionary

clueless — adj
slang
helpless; stupid, ignorant, uninformed

I haven’t been blogging much about the political climate, primarily because my blood pressure is currently under control without need for medication; but seriously, far many other bloggers cover politics much more eloquently than I can.

However, I was forced to do a double-take as I caught a glimpse of a clip of Newt Gingrich railing about the Occupy Wall Street protesters – specifically when he said this about them on national TV:
“… get a job right after you take a bath!”
Hello Newt… anyone in there? You have got to be absolutely without question most blatantly f*#king CLUELESS politician on the planet!

Newt, Baby, the OWS protesters would absolutely LOVE to have a job… some of them at this point would take pretty much ANY job! I know it’s a bit over your limited intellect to understand but, as it turns out, the lack of jobs is EXACTLY WHY they are occupying Wall Street!

You see, you and your conservative cronies and their corporate handlers have systematically dismantled the working class in this country over the last 30 years. You guys basically sent their jobs to China, remember?

But hey Newt, I am in agreement with you; let’s get those lazy louts with their hundreds of thousands of dollars of unpaid student loan debt, out of those parks. How about asking your “Job Creator” friends, you know, the Bush Tax Cut recipients, to let us all know when all those unfilled jobs you want the OWS people to take will be kicking in? We're all still waiting, you little rascal "Job Creators" you.

I’m thinking I need to write to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Company to suggest a new picture to be associated with their definition for the word “Clueless”. Unfortunately I’m having a bit of difficult deciding which of the two pictures above best illustrates that definition. Perhaps my readers could help me decide.

Which is more stupid; being stupid or being stupid on camera? You decide.

I've been wondering where you have been. I've been missing my Robert Rants.

Awkward Under a rock, under the weather and under the radar. But I'm Baaaaack. Thanks for being a Bud and checking on me.

I wrongly? assumed you were taking a blogging break, sorry to hear it was health-related.

Good to have you back though.

I try to avoid politics as much as possible, but extremely difficult given that too many have lost the sense of what is good for the nation.
Something like a future, perchance?

I don't suppose he commented on future students with high debts, who might not find jobs to pay them off? They are part of the movement too.

I'm sure he meant showers. Baths waste a lot of precious water.

I was stunned when I saw his comments. There are indeed separate worlds out there...and the privileged world cannot even acknowledge the existence of the other one.

I was faced with this when my mom made a comment to me a few months ago, to the effect that "They are just a bunch of people who aren't working". She is 81 and has been liberal, but has been watching a lot of the "news" programs. My response to her was "Well, mom, that's the point. They can't find jobs." Then I told her about my daughter, her granddaughter, who has been very involved in the local OWS (near you, actually, Robert).
Mom hasn't mentioned it since.

Cryptos That would be the cool thing.. a bunch of OWS protesters filling Newt's swimming pool with suds and piling in. Thanks for the offer, Newt! Ha.

Jerry The two classes in this country don't mix, they are detatched, misinformed and base other conclusions on myths. Like Newt, Marie Antoinette's "let them eat cake" was similarly detatched... soon thereafter, so was her head.

BackRow That is the scourge of the mainstream media; it is almost as if they say "Repeat after me..." [Obama wasn't born here - tax cuts create jobs - OWS youth want Socialism] Their motto, instead of "Free and Balanced" should be instead "Let us do your thinking for you".

What a f***ing moron. Still picking my jaw up off the floor after hearing all that wild applause for Newt's insistence on keeping his head comfortably inside his colon. Who are these people and what are they smoking?

Nice to see you back, Robert. I hope you're on the mend.

Dissenter Yes the audience is just as horrendous. These are the same people who cheer when Perry talks about how many executions have been done in Texas and shout "let him die" to a fellow American who has no health insurance... you know, those same people who call themselves "Patriots".

Good 'un! Hope it didn't peg out your diastolic.

You know, sometimes I blog on politics in the faint hope that some imaginary independent will benefit from the research or the argument. Chances of that? Miniscule, but it keeps me at the keyboard. Other times, I do it for me. Because I HAVE TO SAY THIS SH*T TO SOMEBODY OR MY HEAD WILL EXPLODE...in which case, I consider it medicinal.

Reading my friends' political posts somehow encourages me. I feel less alone. On the Newt Gingrich post today, I feel companionably joined with you. You might be my brother from another mother.

Take care, buddy.

1) Hope you're okay and glad your blood pressure is under control.

2) You're much better off watching Jeopardy and Seinfeld than reading Huffington or watching any cable news.

3) However, I think you've got it wrong about Gingrich. He's not clueless at all; he knows exactly what's going on. He is pandering to the conservative know-nothing base, telling them what they want to hear; it's his only chance to get the Republican nomination.

4) There's really no chance at all that he will get the nomination, much less win the election. He will soon fade to oblivion. I admit, there's plenty to worry about, but you don't have to worry about what Gingrich says.

So relax; be kind to yourself; take a Seinfeld break.

Part of Newt's cluelessness is that he is spending too much time at and money at Tiffany's for his latest wife/concubine.

Sightings 1) I'm good, Thanks! 2) Agree whole heartedly. 3) You may be right!! I have the same question regarding politicians religious posturing; are they 'really' believers or do they walk the walk merely to garner votes from their base?

Jono Hey, can't blame him for trying to stimulate the Consumer Economy in his small way.

The whole Republican party seems to be taking a "Let them eat cake" view of the OWS movement. It's insane.

When I was a kid, Newt Gingrich was campaigning (unsuccessfully at that time) for a Georgia congressional seat, and as we were walking into a Piggly Wiggly grocery store he approached me and shook my hand. I had no idea who he was.

SecretAgent That would be Newt.. pressing the flesh to get the "kid vote".
