Robert Reich: "The REAL Public Nuisance"

I recently came across this video by Robert Reich. I believe his is as significant a warning about the hijacking of our Democracy as the George Carlin video I have posted previously.

Please invest 2 minutes and watch this video, then pass it on.

Well said. It's hard to see how anyone could honestly argue with this.

This is very good. Thanks for sharing, Robert. Passing it on.

Infidel Well, the Conservatives ARE pretty good at making up their own "facts".

Dissenter It is one of the few videos I've actually FaceBooked. Yes, this needs to get around: The Mainstream Media focuses in on the few crackpots and oddballs in an attempt to discredit the entire movement.

Paul Regardless whether one likes the man or not, what part of what Reich states in the video is not true?

I will pass it on. What worries me is how many people just don't get it.

Saw an #OWS sign on television: Corporations will be people when Texas executes one.

Sign the Motion To Amend the Citizens United ruling.

Reich needs to get with the OWS folks if what he says is true...I haven't seen him at a demonstration...The rich and the "people" both have flies on their faces truth be told Robert. I saw some of the Occupy Philly folks and they were there for a good time and drugs and sex. There were some legitimate folks with issues whom I commend. Look at the whole picture.

Jono Yes, I had another person mention to me that the OWS protesters should "get a job". Whaaa? We are in our longest recession and highest unemployment since the Great Depression. *laughing* WHAT JOBS??!!

Nance I have signed the petition. Thanks.

"There were some legitimate folks with issues whom I commend. Look at the whole picture."

I guess whether one's conclusions regarding what constitutes 'the whole picture', whether the number of legitimate folks is the minority or the majority, depends on one's prejudice. I agree, it is unfortunate that the focus on the few bad actors detracts from the message. But I've been around long enough to recall that the same criticism was made of the Anti Vietnam protesters and the Civil Rights marchers. Now that this is history, the recollection of those events is all but exemplary.

Reich's parsonal lack of attendence at a demonstration does not render his statements untrue. Let me ask you this, aside from the cutting of pension plans by Wall Street, the loss of values of equities and real estate, the lingering recession... if unemployment was not hovering at just under 10% (closer to 14% for college grads) do you think there would even BE a "Occupy Movement" at all?

And aside from (grant you) criticizing the bad actors in this movement, you still have not explained what part Reich's statements are not true.

Robert Reich is a thinking man's liberal, and he's right on the money (excuse the pun) when he says big money buys access and influence, and uses it to further its own selfish goals. Protestors may be inconvenient, but they are a necessary inconvenience.

But let's not be disingenuous, Mr. Reich (or is it Dr. Reich?) He, too, has access and influence, because he has connections. Let's just hope he's using his influence for everyone's benefit, and not just to curry favor with his political connections and push his own agenda, his own career.

Reich is good. But you've got to be just as skeptical about the liberals as you are about the conservatives.

Sightings Indeed, when two extremes get too far afield, they can end up meeting in the same place. One of my good friends had to leave the local Democratic party organization because their views were too far from moderate to be in the electable ball park.

Still, I think there is little doubt that "money talks" in all aspects of our society.

True Dr Reich, because of his notoriety and connections is in a position to be heard. But that HAS to be, or else he is just a nameless and voiceless individual... like the rest of us.

and if that's not enough they're making education less and less attainable to the common man.

Thanks, I will Fb that.

Billy The cost of college tuition has increased double-digit, far more steeply than income. Yes, that way we ensure we have an undereducated and cheap workforce.

SecretAgent Thanks, Reich's word needs to be spread.

You know, it's very nearly the same video as the George Carlin one.

Anyone who would belittle Reich for not joining in the demonstrations would also accuse him of grandstanding if he had.

Murr Your observation is quite true... both of them.
