Mindless Followers

The similarities are striking - one, a mindless group of unthinking creatures stuck in inane behavior... the other; a bunch of ants.

[For full effect, play both videos simultaneously, turn OFF the audio on the lower clip but play only the audio on the upper clip.]

At least the ants have the excuse that they are blind.

Yelp, I'll take the ants. They're quieter.

Chlost Yes, not like the ants had a choice.

The second one looks more nightmarish to me. How do people not have panic attacks in crowds like that?

(Also, I never knew army ants were blind. Interesting.)

Scary for sure!

I would say the explaination applies to the behavior in both videos... "blindness"... just sayin.

Secret Agent I can't stand crowds like that... even worse, where the hell are the public bathrooms?!?

Stinkey Truly.

crnelius Worse, blindness by choice.

Incredible! The ants I can understand, but people......? Belief systems do invite some interesting behaviors.

There have been numerous deaths during the Hajj at Mecca in years past, especially during stampedes. I did a post once titled Islam Is Hazardous To Your Health.

When speaking of mindless followers and just depicting one religious group it seems a bit odd. Watching videos of Catholics following their Pope gives an impression of mindlessness though they do not create a circular pattern as they move about.
And those Muslims walking around the Kaaba do not continue on as those ants do. They leave after seven rotations. Followers continually rotate in and out as they perform their prescribed rituals. In fact that that place can accommodate 3.2 million people over a period of about 10 days shuttling all of them from Jeddha to Mecca and Medina is quite a transportation and accommodation feat.

Brilliant and funny. I did as you suggested and played the ant audio after muting the Mecca audio, and it totally fit.
