Still more Dumb Questions

Yet again, I continue to occasionally embarrass myself by repeatedly stepping into forehead-slapping moments.

This time I’m in the “Dollar Store”, where everything in the store costs, you guessed it, $1 – Obviously none of the items on the shelves are marked with price tags.

So what do I do? In a totally mindless act I take an item off the shelf, walk up to the cashier and ask: “How much is this?”

And finally this...
From the personal diary entry of King George III of England -

"July 4th 1776 - Nothing of consequence happened today."

You must have been pleasantly surprised when they told you it cost one dollar. Happy 4th July - General Washington is much admired in the Congo for his dogged determination and taste in footwear.

Down here....that would be $1...plus Tax......... :)

Bananas Indeed, our first George W was quite the snappy dresser with his matching wig and ivory dentures.

LOTI Yes, no sales tax in Oregon... they beat it out of us through income and property taxes.

I've never been in a Dollar Store. Have seen them I know. I really do not like shopping so I don't go shopping except for groceries, everything else I order online. Interesting quote from King George's diary.

We have dollar stores too, only there are different prices for different goods so that would've been a reasonable question here.
As for the other, poor old GeorgeIII. Amusingly, the current heir Charles, has said publicly that he's proud of that particular ancestor.

Of course, George didn't have the advantage of the instant news gratification we have. He had three months or so to longer to enjoy his dominion.

TechnoBabe To me, shopping is the highest of frivolities and a complete waste of time. Instead, I am a "commando shopper": my objective is to get in, obtain the needed item, and extract myself back home in the least possible time.

The down side to my strategy is that I often end up with clothing that does not fit well, does not look good, or for other reasons does not meet the approval of my wife.

Penny Our dollar stores just have items priced at $1. I'm not sure how they do it, with inflation and all. I guess just fill the shelves with items of decreasing quality. (Assuming that not that much in a dollar now is of ANY degree of quality).

Dr. Mom Indeed - it makes you wonder if George III had been able to seen George W's (Washington) FaceBook page, could there have eventually been a "Mission Accomplished" banner stretched across the Old North Church?

I have to laugh about Bob's commando shopping. Once he brought home a package of "jumbo" underwear and still tried to wear them...kind of hilarious. Nancy (I still don't remember my username/password to sign in here properly.)

Anonymous (aka Nancy) Thank you, dear, for quite literally airing my underwear in public.

With change the most reliable constant, I'd expect more forehead-smacking moments. Commando shopping - I don't even like to dawdle on line.

George3's comment is a moment in history which might be compared to GeorgeW's "Mission Accomplished" bragging, except that the latter should have known better. Do you think it had something to do with being George?
Hey, it is that your wife is able to point out a side of you which you may not otherwise share! I'm glad my family doesn't seem to be aware of my blog-or at least they don't comment.

Marylinn Shopping is really a drag, even online and even with all these price comparison widgets. But then neither one of us are big "consumers" of stuff.

Tell you what, though, I still miss milk delivery to my front porch.

BackRow Your family members are probably lurking there reading every word of your blog... they just don't want to give themselves away. You could try to "test" them; insert some bit of information that they would find difficult to keep to themselves - like hide a chocolate bar someplace and reveal it in your blog. I love doing stuff like that; must be the scientist in me.

I don't enjoy dollar stores - everything is $1, (with tax, $1.09)but very little in there is worth even that.

SecretAgent What usually brings me to the $1 store is my granddaughter. We take the cans back to the store, she feeds them in the deposit machine thereby "earning" the money from the deposits. I try to get her to save some of it but I must confess that it is fun to take her shopping at the $1 store. She ALWAYS seems to find something there she wants to buy.

In California, we have the 99 cent stores. Do you have those too? Haven't seen Dollar stores.First time I've heard this quote from King George III.

I once went to Mcdonald's and asked then how much the 30cent cones cost :(

Robert the Skeptic said...

Gutsy I haven't seen .99 cent stores only the $1 stores. But probably because I live in a more "ritzy" neighborhood than you.

CultureServedRaw See, that encourages me... that I am not the only one who does that. Thanks!!
