25 Years

Today is Nancy’s and my 25th wedding anniversary. I had planned on a longer post for today; stories of how Nancy and I met and relating some of our adventures along the way. However our lives are rather hectic at this moment so those interesting tales may have to wait for another blog.

I will say that my partnership with her has been a remarkable experience. Anything I could imagine about the perfect wife has been far surpassed by the reality. She has made my life immeasurably profound and richer and I am damn lucky to have found her.

We met through singles ads; this was pre-Internet times we are talking about. I asked her to marry me after we had known each other only ten days. I guess we have answered the question already about whether it will last.

We had tentative plans to arrange a celebration with friends and family; well, the family is scattered here and there and the friends are traveling and we are up to our ears in managing the mundane, time consuming, aspects of our busy lives. But then that is what our marriage has always been about: working together, building a life together.

It’s been a great ride for 25 years and we will continue to appreciate each day together for as long as we can hold our feet on this planet.

Happy Anniversary, Nancy – I love you more than I could ever fully convey.

Ten days! What took you so long? How long did you have to wait before she answered in the affirmative?

Bananas She was driving her VW bug down the freeway, it was late at night and her two kids were asleep in the back seat. It was one of those moments where I immediately thought "what the hell just came out of my mouth!!??". But she responded immediately with a yes. [whew]

BackRow Thank you, yes it was the second shot for the both of us.

Wander Welcome. Our grand-daughter did a double-take looking at that picture... until we explained how we did it.

My life partner and I didn't meet until we were fifty, so it's been eighteen years now, hoping for twenty-five. Congratulations to both of you, and I LOVE the picture of your wedding. It's so... eighties! And no matter how you met, it was obviously the Right Thing to Do, getting married and all.

Mapstew Thank you!

Dr. Mom Wow, the big 5-0. Interesting the younger set is waiting so long to get married now; wonder how rare a 50th will be.

DJan Totally cool. You are only as young as you feel... and for someone who still steps out of airplanes, you should have no problem there.

Aww, I LOVE this post! Only ten days acquaintance and you knew? I'm in awe...

And I love that photo of you two, and the idea of your proposing without even knowing you were doing it. Congratulations!

Raising a glass to your love and your bravery. Here's a great example of things "working" for a change.
Well Done!

Congratulations...........hurrah, I am banging the pots and pans here. Delightful stuff.

Orhan Lots of grainy snapshots lined up by the scanner... even some slides. I feel like a part of history now.

Mary I am generally not an impulsive kind of guy; still, not one to not seize an opportunity when presented. Turns out it was a good move for us both.

Lisa "Working" is the operative term here as it has, and does, take work. But we are pretty good at compromise, which has been vital to our success.

Maggie Banging on pots and pans... great, we have grandkids who like to help in that regard.

This is sooooooooo cool. Congratulations to you both for finding each other and for having the wisdom to keep each other. It is so fun to hear about people who met pre-online ads. My hubby and I met online when he posted a craigslist ad. So, sort of the same thing. Hugs to you both and best wishes for many more years together.

Thank you for a lovely visit to a good marriage. Love the pictures and the little bit of story we got about your meeting. Now you've promised, you have to come through with the rest!

Not only congratulations on the wonderful life you share, but I feel a little kinship as my wife and I met via online ads twelve years ago. I took me two years to propose though.

Warmest wishes.

Technobabe Yes, never underestimate the power of networking to put two people together. Sometimes a "system" works.

Nance Yes, I like hearing stories about how people met as well. Some are remarkable, to say the least.

KleinsteMotte Yes, we appreciate that luck probably had a great dealt to do with it.

Jerry Well your time line is probably more the norm. I can't believe what came out of my mouth after I said it. More remarkable was her response... I was expecting: "Get the heck out of my car"! Fortunately luck was with me.

Your post about Nancy on her birthday was wonderful and this matches it. Congratulations. Between the story about Lydia and this, I guarantee you have brought joy and hope to many hearts.

Happy anniversary.

I asked my wife, Peggy, to marry me after ten days if not less. We're moving up on our 39th.

Robert the Skeptic said...

Marylinn That is a big accomplishment for one who is a "skeptic". Thank you.

Snow There, you see... "chance favors the prepared mind". Good work, Snow.

I don't know how much credit I can take for a marriage that survived, but I wouldn't advise anyone to race into it as we did because I think it likely that we were more lucky than smart.
